A 14-year-old girl has been shot dead by police during a shoot-out as officers fired on a suspected gunman at a clothes shop, say authorities.
Officers from the LAPD had gone to a Burlington Coat Factory in North Hollywood to reports of ‘shots being fired’ on Thursday morning.
When they found the man shots were fired, police said, and the suspect was shot and killed.
But tragically police went on to discover a hole in a wall which connected to a dressing room, and inside was the dead girl.
Speaking via the force’s Twitter page LAPD Assistant Chief Dominic Choi called the shooting a ‘tragic and unfortunate sequence of events.’
He added that preliminary investigations suggest that the girl was shot dead by a police officer’s round.
Police went on to say that that no gun was found in the area.
LAPD Captain Spell said that police had received multiple reports that there was a ‘possible shooting in progress’ before the incident.
He said that when police caught up with him he was in the process of assaulting another person.
It was then that the deadly shooting took place, leaving the two people dead.
