Klopp questions why Carabao Cup semi-final is two-legged

Liverpool are continuing to keep tabs on Jarrod Bowen as they sweat on the future of Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian is into the final 18 months of his deal at Anfield but there has been no major breakthrough in negotiations.

Salah, who is enjoying the best season of his career to date, would be a huge loss were he to opt for a move elsewhere.

His goal contributions alone would leave a massive hole but Liverpool have long adhered to a wage structure that could be smashed if they give the 29-year-old what he wants.

As a result they are tracking other players with Bowen among them.

The Hammers star has become an increasingly influential figure at the London Stadium.

Bowen was signed from Hull City for £7m almost two years ago after impressing with the Championship outfit.

The 25-year-old, now into his second full season at the London Stadium, has been part of a side that has mounted a top four charge whilst being the only team to beat the Reds this term.

Bowen’s high energy style would appear to suit Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy, hence the interest.

Leeds United’s Raphinha is another of those to be linked with a switch to Anfield.

The Brazilian, a national teammate with several Liverpool stars, has been the standout performer at Elland Road this term.

The Whites have looked to their winger for goals and inspiration, which he has often provided.

Raphinha, like Bowen, would appear to suit the style implemented so successfully at Liverpool.

The Reds have shown with the additions of Virgil van Dijk and Luis Suarez that January moves can prove successful.

However the Echo reports that no approaches for either Raphinha or Bowen are expected to take place before the season is over.

Liverpool under Klopp long had a clear front three with Salah joined by Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Now though Diogo Jota looks to be establishing himself as the team’s No 9, dislodging Firmino in the process.

A change on the flanks could also occur in the coming year if Salah does opt to pursue a move elsewhere with the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Barcelona all inevitably linked.

That said, the Egyptian earlier this year did underline his commitment to the Reds.

He told Sky Sports in October: “If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career, but I can’t say much about that – it’s not in my hands.

“At the moment I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad.”
