EastEnders fans were a bit confused on Tuesday evening as Linda Carter returned to the BBC soap.
Kellie Bright’s character is working in another pub and had a surprise guest in the form of Janine Butcher.
Janine – who is played by actress Charlie Brooks – ended up manipulating her alcoholic love rival into starting drinking again.
Unbeknownst to Linda, it was Janine who text her from Mick Carter’s phone and cancelled their reunion.
She then decided to head to Linda’s workplace where she pretended to be a wine rep named Judith Bernstein.
Being as friendly as ever, Janine told her: “I need another drink, are you sure you won’t join me?” as she poured a large glass for herself.
“One wouldn’t hurt,” Linda replied as she began opening up to Janine about Mick and her kids.
Linda failed to properly recognise Janine – despite their previous clash – and this left viewers baffled.
When the Carters first arrived in Walford there was a bidding war for the Vic that the family won – against Janine, and it’s hard to believe this would slip Linda’s mind.
“You’d think that Linda would probably recognise Janine seeing as they both lived on the square at the same time for a few months,” one person tweeted.
Another posted: “I’m even surprised Linda didn’t recognise Janine, they’ve deffo met.”
And a third viewer wrote: “So Linda doesn’t recognise Janine and Mr Lister doesn’t recognise Stacey… ok then.”
Later on in the episode, Linda drank even more wine as Janine tried her best to convince her that her marriage to Mick was over.
And before she left the pub, she made sure to take a photo of Linda downing wine alone – which she will no doubt use against her in the near future.
