A woman complained to her butcher after she was unable to cook her turkey through on Christmas day – but she was left red-faced after being told she had actually bought a gammon joint.
The woman, known only as Zoe, said that she was ‘very disappointed’ by the big bird which she had hoped to serve to her guests, as no matter how hard she tried it stayed pink in the middle, as the Daily Star reports.
She took to Facebook to raise the issue with NL Woodcock Butchers in Oldham, Greater Manchester, and soon a member of staff replied – saying that she’d actually ordered gammon and must not have realised while cooking it.
Zoe quickly backed down and apologised, adding that she was a ‘pillock’, and luckily the butchers saw the funny side and offered to drop her a turkey off for free.

In her message to the butcher, Zoe wrote: “So we cooked the big 12lb turkey yesterday and when we carved it it was still very very pink inside so had to put it back in the oven.
“One hour later we got it out again but still pink, so my husband carved it all and put it back in because we thought it would have to cook quicker like this.
“Eventually we gave up and had Xmas dinner two hours late with no meat.
“When I went in the kitchen later I had a nibble on the outside of the now very dried out meat and realised it wasn’t a turkey, it was gammon. Very disappointed I have to say.”
Then a member of staff replied, saying that Zoe had actually ordered the gammon.
Zoe then said: “Oh my God, I’m such a ****. Please accept my apologies.
“Oh well, it couldn’t have made Xmas worse anyway because my whole house apart from me have covid (I’m the only one who had the booster).”

Zoe then asked if the butcher had any turkeys left and they kindly offered to drop one off for free, as the mistake sparked ‘the best laugh I’ve had this year’.
The butcher shared the exchange on Facebook and wrote: “Looking after our customers. Sorry Zoe but we thought it was funny.”
Social media users reacted to the post, with one simply commenting: “Brilliant.”
Another wrote: “OMG!!!! Sounds like something I would do”, while a third said: “She never ordered one let alone the difference”.
And a fourth added: “Pretty impressive customer service!”
Zoe also commented on the post, writing alongside laughing emojis: “I’m so pleased everyone has had a massive laugh at our stupidity.”
She added in response to another comment: “Apparently I’m a pillock”.
