Manchester City’s squad may be packed with quality, but Ferran Torres’ departure to Barcelona raises some interesting questions about what comes next for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Spain international gave City a versatile option in the forward line and while he has been injured in recent months, a fresh Ferran would have been a big boost for Guardiola in what’s set to be a jam-packed 2022.
City will surely move to strengthen their options up top as a result, with the main question being whether they try to sign new faces in January or at the end of the season.

Haaland deadline
According to Bild (h/t the Express), Borussia Dortmund want Erling Haaland to make a decision on his future by February.
The Norway international is set to be one of the hottest properties in world football this summer, with reports suggesting he has a £64million release clause in his contract.
City are one of a number of high-profile clubs to be linked with the sharpshooter and given Haaland’s immense potential, there will be plenty of teams ready to meet the trigger amount aforementioned.
Dortmund are said to be pushing Haaland to make a decision on whether he will move on soon though, as the Bundesliga giants are ready to begin the process of finding a replacement for him.
Sterling learning Spanish
According to The Athletic (h/t the Mirror), Torres helped Raheem Sterling learn Spanish when the two of them were together at City.
In the report it’s said the pair would frequently speak in the language of the other.
Such news would be intriguing to City supporters, as Sterling has been linked with a possible move to Barcelona in recent weeks too. According to Eurosport, even with Torres signed up the Catalan giants retain an interest in Sterling.
The England international’s contract in Manchester is set to expire at the end of next season and Sterling said earlier in the campaign he would be open to playing elsewhere if he was not getting minutes at City.
City ‘get information’ on Svanberg
According to Calciomercato (h/t Sport Witness), City have started to show an interest in Bologna’s Mattias Svanberg.
The 22-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in Serie A, with three goals and two assists from 19 appearances.
Bologna are said to be keen on tying down Svanberg to a new contract, with his current deal poised to run out in 2023. However, a number of Premier League sides are reported to be taking a keen interest in him.
One of those is City and Guardiola’s side are reportedly “starting to get information” about Svanberg.
