EastEnders is rarely a stepping to the bright lights of Hollywood, but in some cases, starring in one of the UK’s biggest soaps is great to have on your CV.
It certainly proved to be useful for one former Albert Square resident, who has gone on to land a role in a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
Don’t Look Up is the latest Netflix hit that everybody’s talking about, and also stars Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet and Cate Blanchett.
However, there’s another familiar face that viewers have spotted when tuning into the satirical science fiction film.
British actor Himesh Patel plays a small yet significant role in the blockbuster movie, and it’s sure to catapult him to even bigger things.
He plays the part of Phillip, a journalist and boyfriend to Kate Dibiasky, portrayed by The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, and he certainly looks worlds away from his soap alter ego.
Himesh, 31, first found fame on EastEnders playing Tamwar Masood back in 2007, and remained on the BBC soap until 2016.
Tamwar was eventually written out of EastEnders when he ran off with his girlfriend Nancy Carter, who he later married in Australia before the couple settled down in New Zealand.
Their marriage, however, ended in divorce, as Nancy returned to Walford alone.
Himesh’s career has gone from strength-to-strength since leaving EastEnders as he’s enjoyed roles in TV series Motherland, as well as movies The Aeronauts and Tenet.
Various Netflix users took to Twitter after spotting Himesh in Don’t Look Up.
“Tamwar from eastenders on dont look up?! I predict in 10 years there will be no American actors left. We’re literally undetectable to the average American viewer,” one person claimed.
Another posted: “Omg Tamwar from Eastenders has done so well!! Watching him in ‘Dont Look Up’ ( great film so far btw) From the Minute Mart to being in a film with Leonardo dicaprio!! Big Stuff!!”
A third viewer wrote: “no way is tamwar from eastenders in dont look up.”
And a fourth person added: “LMAOOOO SOMEONE FROM EASTENDERS IS ON DONT LOOK UP I THOUGHT THE GUY LOOKED FAMILIAR.”
