Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Williams face off ahead of fight

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) have suspended all fights in the United Kingdom in January due to coronavirus.

Their decision comes amid rising Omicron cases across the country and it means Chris Eubank Jr’s fight with Welsh rival Liam Williams will need to be rescheduled once again.

The two fighters were due to face off on 29 January at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff after Williams, 29, suffered a shoulder injury ruling him out of competing on 11 December, the initial date for the bout.

This fresh postponement is a frustrating one for Eubank Jr, 32, who harbours ambitions of facing middleweight icon Gennady Golovkin later this year.

A new date for the grudge fight between the two Brits is yet to be announced.

The BBBofC have made their decision to allow doctors and medical experts to dedicate their services to the NHS.

“Following advice from the British Boxing Board of Control Medical Panel, Boxing tournaments under the jurisdiction of the BBBofC will be suspended for the month of January,” the Board said in a statement.

“A further review by the Medical Panel and Stewards will take place prior to the planned recommencement of Boxing in February.”

Eubank Jr has been training for the fight in Dubai and former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua paid a visit to the gym to cheer him on in training earlier this week.
