Coronation Street star Rebecca Ryan has revealed all on getting to work with her real-life brother, after joining the ITV soap.
Rebecca made her debut as Lydia in December this year, while her actor brother Jack James Ryan first appeared on the show earlier in 2021, before making a later return.
Jack joined the ITV soap first as drug dealer Jacob, who was caught up in a recent storyline with Simon Barlow and criminal Harvey.
Now, Rebecca has joined the show too, also caught up in drama with the Barlows, and she’s set to bring trouble to the cobbles.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Rebecca revealed it is a “dream come true” to get to work on the same show as her younger sibling, after recently sharing a snap on Instagram of them on the set together.
Rebecca revealed they have an older brother, Charlie, who is also an actor.
She said: “It’s so amazing to be working with Jack – what a dream come true to work with him at the same time.
“We did Casualty – he came on when I was there but we didn’t get together on it, we were just there. I have worked with my older brother Charlie before on a couple of things.
“It’s amazing to work with Jack! We’ve only had one day where we’ve been in at the same time, but there will be more days as it goes on which is a good thing for him on Fridays – he gets a lift there and back.
“I would love a scene together, it would be brilliant. We didn’t get it in Casualty, I feel like when he is filming, she should just walk around in the background.”
On how the characters might get on if they crossed paths, she added: “Hmm. That depends what side of Jacob we are seeing.
“Lydia can be quite feisty and she can hold her own so she wouldn’t take any crap from him. So there might be a mutual respect there.”
Rebecca also teased what was ahead for her character, as she’s set to “take action” against Adam Barlow, amid their secret history.
She explained: “At first she doesn’t see trouble. She just recognises him from their uni days – they were together for six months.
“She sees him and he doesn’t remember her or who she is. It’s not really acceptable, that’s a punch in the gut. Different things happen, she is upset and taken aback.
“Things go on, stuff happens where he doesn’t like her being around Sarah as they’re really good friends.
“It’s one thing after another which causes Lydia to maybe take action… his past is catching up with him, definitely.”
On what fans can expect, she went on: “I’m looking forward to her causing trouble, there’s always going to be a bit of drama. But I also want people to see the reasons behind why she’s there to cause trouble.
“She doesn’t go in there intending – I want to get that across. She doesn’t want to ruin everyone’s lives but she does do things.
“I do want to show her nice side and her friendships with Sarah and Daniel are genuine with real connections. I hope that comes across.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
