Emmerdale’s Ash Palmisciano has gone public with his new girlfriend Shea Rowan.
The actor, who plays Matty Barton on the ITV soap, shared a snap of the cute couple as they celebrated New Year together.
Dressed up as Tiger King’s Joe Exotic, Ash, 31, captioned the pic: “Happy new year everyone! Thank god this girl was too polite to say no to a drink (even though I was dressed as joe exotic) ha wishing a fantastic 2022 to everyone #NYE#MyLove.”
Ash’s post was met with a flurry of support from the soap star’s followers with one saying: “That a lovely picture of you both, happy new year.”
Another wrote: “Happy New Year to you Ash and your girlfriend and family. Hope you all have a wonderful night Xxxx”
While a third penned: “Happy new you too!! love you both…”
Ash joined Emmerdale as the soap’s first transgender character in 2018.
Matty is Moira Barton’s child, who previously appeared on the show as Hannah.
Ash previously spoke of how proud he was to make history on the long-running soap, but admitted he had faced some difficulties because he was now “open to society’s prejudice qualities”.
The actor sadly revealed he’d been ‘beaten in the streets’ until he ‘couldn’t stand or see’, but said he would “never give up” because he had others ‘relying on him’.
Ash, who is transgender himself, revealed that he had previously starred in a number of roles as a cis gendered man.
Asked about whether he had initially worried over the publicity he would receive on joining Emmerdale, he admitted: “A bit. In the past I’ve not taken roles as felt they haven’t been right and I didn’t want to put that label to my name.
“Growing up has made me realise that if you want to make a change you have to be that.
“Hopefully it will be a message out there to people that no matter what your story is or what you’ve done with your life you can pursue your career and dreams.”
Ash has been involved in a number of dramatic storylines on the Leeds-set soap, including ending up in a fireball after helping Marlon Dingle with a barbecue earlier last year.
Emmerdale airs every night at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays
