Conor McGregor: Who will he fight next?

Two potential opponents of Conor McGregor – Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson – could agree a deal to face each other in the UFC this year.

McGregor is looking to stage a successful comeback in the promotion’s lightweight division after two consecutive defeats to Dustin Poirier.

The Irishman has been called out by a whole host of names including contenders Chandler and Ferguson who have stated their cases to face the superstar.

It now looks likely that the pair will look to meet in the octagon with Chandler promising to beat Ferguson as a social media row erupted.

Ferguson mocked Chandler on Twitter : ” There’s my b**** Michael Chandler. The brass Dana White relaying your message saying that you would be ready for me in April or June. Looks like you are trying to delay that a** whooping, I owe you for cutting in line kid. It’s wrestling season mother****** man-up champ.”

To which Chandler quickly clapped back : “Oh Tony. There’s only a handful of guys in this game I truly respect…you’re one of them. Only because of your tenure, not your stature or your current presence in the division. I’ll beat you from bell to bell. Pray for a merciful ref. We shall see if this fight happens.”

Chandler recently fought Justin Gaethje but came up empty-handed despite fighting in a brutal war with his American counterpart.

Meanwhile Ferguson is without a victory in the octagon since 2019 against Donald Cerrone losing to Gaethje, Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush.

Between April and June is being touted as a date for the pair to clash which is a similar time to McGregor’s planned return to UFC action.

McGregor has now instead demanded an immediate title shot on his return against Oliveira who is fresh from choking out Poirier in their bout last month to defend his title.

The Brazilian is keen to defend his title against McGregor despite UFC president White confirming that Gaethje would be in pole position to make a challenge.

Oliveira believes now is the time to take a huge possible “payday” against McGregor who is plotting redemption after three defeats in his last four outings.

May would be a wonderful date. Conor challenged me asking a date, and tweeted Ireland vs. Brazil 2,” he told Sherdog.

“Not only him, but also myself and all the world wants to see that fight. So let’s make it happen. I’m waiting for him in May. It may be in welterweight, lightweight or middleweight, with my title on the line or not. Just choose and I’ll be ready.

“Gaethje was knocked out by Poirier, who I just submitted. He was almost knocked out by Chandler, who I beat via TKO. “But I’m a UFC employee. If they choose that I should fight Gaethje next, I’ll be ready too.

“To tell you the truth, I couldn’t understand his posture. He said a lot of bull**** about me, but when he faced me he said I deserve all the respect, that I was a real champion.”
