Ralf Rangnick discusses Ronaldo’s fitness

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has gone above and beyond to make sure he remains in prime condition, purchasing a state of the art hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber tank.

Now 36, the Portuguese icon, who is renowned for his staggering levels of fitness and consistency, has adapted to life back in English football with ease.

Returning after more than a decade away from Old Trafford, Ronaldo has quickly re-established himself as United’s main man, scoring 14 times in just 20 games.

Despite that richly impressive return, he has faced some criticism for a lack of work off the ball, particularly in the wake of Ralf Rangnick’s appointment.

The interim boss has a reputation for high-pressing and intense football, with some questioning whether Ronaldo will be able to adapt at this juncture.

But he is willing to give himself the best chance possible, with the Sun reporting he has installed a state of the art hi-tech oxygen chamber to help him best maintain his fitness.

The machine enables Ronaldo to breathe pure air directly into blood plasma, helping repair damaged tissue amid the hectic fixture schedule.

Since signing from Juventus, the striker has started in all but two Premier League games, whilst turning it out in five of their six Champions League group games.

And following postponements against Brentford and Brighton last month, there could be a backlog of fixtures, starting with Monday night’s clash against Wolves.

But Ronaldo is seemingly doing all he can to be in tip-top shape as United chase the final top four spot which would ensure Champions League qualification.

A source told the Sun: “Everyone knows Cristiano is a fitness fanatic and totally dedicated to being in the best shape he can be.

“He’s used oxygen chambers before in his career but they are not as easy to find in the UK so he decided to buy one and have it installed at his house.

“It means if he ever feels a twinge he can go and use it and get the benefits.

“These are the reasons why he misses so few games due to injury.”

This comes after Ronaldo sent a pointed New Year’s message to his Manchester United team-mates, warning them to shape up after a disappointing 2021.

United find themselves 22 points behind league leaders and local rivals Manchester City and although they have three games in hand, any hopes of a title charge are over.

And Ronaldo admitted he was “not happy” with the situation and urged his colleagues to use the new year as an opportunity to start over.

“I’m not happy with what we are achieving in Man. United,” he posted on Instagram. “None of us are happy, I’m sure of that. We know that we have to work harder, play better and deliver way more than we are delivering right now.

“Let’s make this New Year’s Eve a turning point of the season! Let’s embrace 2022 with a higher spirit and a stronger mentality.

“Let’s take us above and beyond, let’s reach for the stars and put this club right where it belongs!”
