A China Eastern airlines plane has suffered an accident in the Guangxi region, in southern China, when it was covering the route between Kunming, in the southwest, and Canton, in the southeast of the country, as confirmed by the Administration of the Chinese Civil Aviation (CAA). Flight MU5735 carried 132 people on board, according to this agency.
No casualties or causes of the accident have been reported so far. The plane, a Boeing 737, plunged into the mountains of the Wuzhou area of Guangxi, which “caused a fire”, according to the Chinese state television channel CCTV, which adds that relief teams have been sent to the area of the incident.
According to the CAA, the accident plane had 123 passengers and nine crew members on board. The flight departed from the southwestern city of Kunming at 1:11 p.m. (local time), according to data from the air monitoring website FlightRadar24, which indicates that the Boeing 737 was six years old. The tracking of the flight ended at 14:22, at an altitude of 3,225 feet with a speed of 376 knots. He was due to land in Guangzhou, on the east coast, at 3:05 p.m.
Monday’s plane crash is the first to occur on mainland China in nearly a dozen years. Until now, the last one had occurred in the province of Helongjiang, in the northeast, on August 24, 2010, when a Henan Airlines plane went down in an incident in which 44 of the 96 people who were traveling on board died. .
