Vodafone will also offer electricity with 100% renewable energy | Economy

Vodafone announced this Wednesday that it will offer energy services through Vodafone Energy, its new light retailer with 100% renewable energy. In this way, the telecommunications operator will stand up to its rivals such as MásMóvil, which already sells electricity through several brands, and Telefónica, which has signed an agreement with Repsol for the installation of solar panels for electricity self-consumption.

The energy offer, which can be contracted from autumn, is only for telephone customers through the Vodafone Electricity Rate, which will be contracted digitally and without permanence. This variable rate works with hourly discrimination, which means that users will pay the electricity service at the market price at the time of consumption, being a different price for each hour of each day, within three sections regulated in term of energy (valley, flat and peak) and two in terms of power (peak and valley), without Vodafone benefiting from higher consumption by customers.

In this way, if they consume in the most affordable sections, they will be able to benefit from better conditions. Vodafone estimates that its new Electricity Rate allows savings of up to 25% compared to some of its competition rates.

Contracting the service is exclusive for current Vodafone private and professional customers, so they will benefit from a free monthly fee and without permanence. In case of losing the status of Vodafone telephone customer, an additional fee of 4 euros per month would be charged.

The Vodafone Electricity Rate is 100% digital and can be contracted through the MiVodafone app, which brings together all the operator’s products and services. In this way, customers will be able to carry out all the procedures in less than two minutes, from contracting the service to viewing invoices, downloading them, sending them or checking consumption. Furthermore, the app will progressively offer more functionalities so that the customer has all the necessary information at their fingertips to manage their contracted products with Vodafone. The process does not require installation at home.

Telecommunications operators are immersed in a business diversification process taking advantage of their broad customer base. Insurance, alarms, mobile sales and energy are among the new products in its portfolio.
