Samsung increased its profit in Spain by 57% in 2021 | Economy

Samsung Electronics Iberia recorded a profit after taxes of 34.5 million euros during the past year, which is 57.5% more than in 2020, according to the company’s annual report, presented this Monday. The technology manufacturer invoiced 1,687 million euros in its last year in the country, which represents an increase of 8% over the previous year. Likewise, the firm’s gross operating result (Ebitda) reached 44.9 million, 74.7% more, while it invested 170.3 million in purchases and investments in local suppliers, 20.6% more than in 2020.

The South Korean company calculates its contribution to the Spanish gross domestic product (GDP) at 744 million euros, 74.6 million euros higher than in 2020. This contribution is broken down into 83.7 million euros contributed directly, 147 .9 million expenses on national suppliers, 359.7 million for the driving contribution to GDP and another 152.3 million through the induced contribution.

The Asian firm ended the year with 340 employees and generating 3,049 indirect jobs. Samsung estimates its impact at the level of jobs in Spain at 15,894, while the tax impact amounts to 619.4 million euros with 39.4 million euros contributed directly by the company itself.

“Despite the fact that 2021 has not been an easy year (…) we have achieved very positive results compared to the previous year and we have recovered business indicators with figures similar to those of the pre-pandemic”, the president highlighted. of the subsidiary, Ick Soo Choi.

Xiaomi maintained the first position in the sale of mobile phones in Spain in the last quarter of 2021 with a share of 29%, although it has cut its progression with a 3% decrease in shipments, according to the consulting firm Canalys. After the Chinese manufacturer, Samsung is located, with 22%, and Apple, with 17%, although both have registered falls of 21% and 10%, respectively.
