The Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, has reactivated this Monday the proposal to create a check for 300 euros aimed at the people most affected by the price increase. “To reinforce the protection of citizens, we are committed to a check of 300 euros for the people most affected by the crisis, as has been launched in France”, he announced on his Twitter account one day after the Andalusian elections, that the PP won with an absolute majority and in which the coalition that Díaz supported collapsed. The measure, according to sources close to the vice president, would cost 1,200 million euros, which means that it would reach four million homes. The vice president has also proposed raising the corporate tax rate for large energy companies, specifying for the first time that the increase advocated by her party would be 10 points. According to these sources, these proposals are being negotiated with the Socialists.

Díaz and United We Can put pressure on their government partners after the elections in Andalusia to extend the extraordinary aid approved in the anti-crisis decree, which came to light in April to mitigate the economic impact of the war in Ukraine and which will no longer have final effects of this month. “RDL 6/2022 expires on June 30 and we have to renew it for the next three months in the face of the global economic uncertainty. It is essential to reinforce the protection of citizens and advance in measures that promote the energy transition”, said the vice president. And for this, she has made public in a Twitter thread the folders that are now on the table.

Many of these proposals were already negotiated last March, but they did not go ahead. This is the case of the 300 euro check for which the Ministry of Social Rights bet, which is directed by the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra. The vice president this Monday has once again insisted on the need to approve a surcharge for energy companies in view of the extraordinary benefits they are obtaining due to the increase in the price of raw materials. An issue that in recent days has raised tension between the two partners of the government coalition. Specifically, Díaz has opted to raise the corporate tax for these companies by 10 points, compared to the 30% that they currently pay ―only energy companies and banks pay that rate, 25% for the rest―, “to collect between 1,500 and 2,000 million euros, in accordance with the evolution of prices and the margins that are forecast for the coming months.

With this, Díaz points out, “the ecological transition and sustainable mobility” should be financed, allowing a reduction in the price of public transport. “Given the increase in fuel prices, reduce the transport subscription by 50%”, added the vice president. “In addition, we propose to establish a mechanism that allows the bonus to be adjusted to the price of gasoline and non-professional diesel according to the income level of the beneficiaries”, she has resulted in the social network.

“Inflation is hitting families. It is noticeable when making the purchase or when balancing the accounts at the end of the month. The Government acted quickly and decisively, but now it is not enough. We must strengthen protection against an international crisis”, considered the vice president, who has riveted: “Exceptional measures at an exceptional time have to help us become the society we want. A country that looks to the future and recovers hope by advancing day by day”.
